Jhonattan Vegas Wins 2011 Bob Hope Classic23rd January 2011 LA QUINTA Jhonattan Vegas ("Jhonny Vegas") signed for a final round of 3-under-par 69 and won the Bob Hope Classic on the second hole of a playoff with Bill Haas and Gary Woodland. A 28-foot birdie-bomb on the 1st hole gave Jhonny a one-stroke advantage and the lead quickly expanded to three-strokes after he converted on an 11-foot eagle at the par-5 6th. Playing partner Gary Woodland was able to cut into the lead with an 8-foot birdie on the next hole, but at the turn Jhonny enjoyed a two-stroke lead. On the back nine, Vegas lost his accuracy off the tee, but solid putting kept him in the lead until the final hole when a three-putt bogey from 47-feet created a three-way playoff with Bill Haas and Gary Woodland. On the first playoff hole, Haas was eliminated after a poor tee shot eventually resulted in a par. The final playoff hole at the par-4 10th saw Vegas find the water off the tee and after a drop he was able to put his approach to 10-feet. Jhonny put his 10-foot par-putt in the cup for his first PGA TOUR title. The victory earns Jhonny an invitation to the 2011 Masters and PGA Championship. |

Goggin, one of only two players to better par each day at the Panama Golf Club, finished at 11-under 269, two shots in front of Darron Stiles and fellow Aussie Alistair Presnell. The Tour's eighth time in Central America proved to be the toughest as temperatures reached into the 90s each day, complicated by afternoon storms causing officials to delay play several times during the first 3 rounds. On the final day, Goggin was error-free on the final nine with seven pars and birdies at Hole 14 and 16. The latter gave him sole possession of the lead for the first time, resulting in his third career win on the Nationwide Tour. |
